So above you see the look that I created today using most of the items I received in my February F.O.M.O. box from BoxyCharm. I want to review a couple of the items that I used and let you know my honest thoughts about these products.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume 3 Eye Shadow Palette – I have to say, I was rather underwhelmed by this palette. It is my first Tarte product and for me it just wasn’t worth the hype Tarte gets. It looks so pretty, but it took a lot of layering for me to start seeing any of the lighter shades I used. I thought from the look of the palette that it would be so pretty, and it is, but it takes a while to start seeing the color payoff on the lighter shades. The darkest shade I used had a decent color payoff without using as much product. I’ll use it again, but I am sincerely hoping that this isn’t typical of Tarte’s eye shadow palettes.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – Ok, I’ve heard about this for years. I’m not fond of some of the CEO’s attitudes, but I was willing to overlook them to try the mascara as it came in my BoxyCharm box. I’ve got to be honest. I’m not impressed. I’ve used it twice. It doesn’t give me any results I can’t get from a much cheaper mascara and the second application was very clumpy. I really don’t see why this mascara is so popular as it simply didn’t give me any wow factor. I’ve gotten better payoff from Ulta Beauty’s Twisted Volume than I did from this.
Girlactik Skin Glow in Moonlight – This is some sort of cream blush/highlighter duo and to be honest, I’m not a fan. It has an oily sheen over the top of the pans which transfers to the mirror inside the compact. It feels greasy on the fingers and it barely shows up on me at all – both blush and highlighter were sorely lacking in the visibility department. It’s actually pretty sad, since they’re very pretty in the pans, minus that oily sheen.
Adesse New York Liquid Lipstick – Ok, maybe I’m just a snob, but I really didn’t care for this liquid lip at all. It never claimed to be matte but it was still a surprise to realize that it doesn’t dry down. It’s quite sticky, much like some lip glosses are. It did last quite a while before finally rubbing most of the way off, but I have to say, I’m not a big fan of liquid lips that don’t dry down and stay on your lips. I’ll wear it again for the color, but not for the consistency.
Ulta Beauty Matte Eye Primer in Nude – I’ve tried a ton of eye primers. Rarely do they do me any good. For the most part, I use concealer as eye primer because it works. But I got this in a little makeup bag I got at Ulta and thought I’d give it a try. It’s thick and a bit on the gooey side. It’s very easy to get way too much out of the tube. I ended up wasting a bunch of product because I barely squeezed and it just shot out of the tube. It worked pretty well, I didn’t see much, if any, creasing. But to be honest, I’m not sure I want to deal with the thickness, gooey texture, and wastefulness that occurs when you use it.
In short, I’m not a huge fan of any of the products but they’re all right. I would definitely use them again, but I have other options I’d prefer.
